Supply Chain / Purchasing Engineer required in East Sussex. Our client manufactures electrical components for the automotive, military and aerospace industries. They currently need a supply chain / purchasing candidate from an Engineering background to provide technical support to Suppliers in trouble shooting production problems, to purchase supplies of materials, components, and services to the appropriate quality standards, delivery, and at the lowest cost consistent with meeting Customer requirements and inventory policy.

Must hold an ONC/HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Production Engineering and have had at least 2-3 years experience in a production environment of a related industry. Membership of CIPS is desirable although not essential, with a Machine and Plating shop bias preferred, but not essential.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

To prepare Management performance reports on a monthly basis within set deadlines.

To initiate method improvement and cost saving projects in the Production areas and with suppliers in order to reduce / remove rework and scrap of purchased components.

To support Production / Sales Engineering in the preparation of Process Specifications and Routings

To assist and provide concise information to our suppliers for the manufacture of NPI and NPD jobs.

To obtain written quotations for the purchase of raw materials/components and services from suitably approved suppliers, complete with all additional charges for delivery, test certification, batch charges and minimum order quantities. All quotations to be covered by suitable periods of validity.

To be responsible for the preparation and authorisation of purchase orders in line with Company policy on Surplus stocks and their issue to suppliers. To ensure that accurate computer records are maintained and up-to-date.

To liaise with Engineering and Production Engineering to ensure components are designed for manufacture, including the sub-contract requirements.

To be participative in the Vendor Management improvement program
