Military training organisation based in Kent seeks a professional Electrical Power / Mechanical Engineer with infrastructure / utilities experience to become a Senior Lecturer, to assist high calibre candidates achieve Chartered status. This is an excellent opportunity to help guide highly motivated military personnel to high level career positions. Previous teaching experience is not essential as professional training will be provided to achieve teaching qualifications (where appropriate).
Candidates need to have gained industry experience of;
1. Power Electrical Engineering (230 & 11k Voltage) – Transmission & Distribution, Switchgear & Protection and Electrical Installations 2. Mechanical Engineering – Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, Water & Waste Water, Fuels, Building Systems and Heating & Ventilation
JOB PURPOSE: To deliver current and academically sound Electrical and Mechanical Engineering training up to post graduate level teaching and mentoring students to gain Chartered Engineer professional qualifications and Master Level academic qualifications
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Instruction, assessment, training objectives, course programming, liaison with professional institutions and technical currency as below:
• Instructs, tutors and assesses post-graduate courses (at BTEC Level 4/5) in electrical and mechanical engineering including the Professional Engineer Training (MSc Level) • Instructs, tutors and assesses senior NCO (Non Commissioned Officers) courses for HND at BTEC Level 3/4 in electrical and mechanical engineering and other courses as necessary • Gives electrical and mechanical engineering academic, educational and syllabus advice to other lecturers and instructors as required • Acts as a recognised teacher of Cranfield University and as an academic focus in the University’s relationship with the Electrical and Mechanical Wing • Is responsible to the appropriate course director for the relevant technical element of the Professional Engineer Course (Electrical & Mechanical) • Plans, prepares, supervises and assesses appropriate laboratory work, design projects, assignments and examinations to support instruction • Carry out department security duties as required. • Writing trainees’ disciplinary reports in a timely manner. • Conform to Standing Orders for the department and training establishment in general and for the classrooms and workshops in particular. • Duties ancillary to instruction, such as invigilating, correcting, progress tests and other tasks appropriate to the grade (ie Assessing and marking course work and progress tests in both theoretical and practical aspects). • Visit trainees when on work placements for assessment and mentoring. • Be prepared to work at other Kent College locations as required. • Participate in the classroom observation and appraisal scheme as required. • Maintains up to date technical knowledge about the subjects taught • Covers for other Wing engineering instructors/lecturers • Carry out research and assess trends for inclusion in courses • Attends appropriate training courses, conferences etc as necessary
ESSENTIAL TRAINING: • There is a requirement to attend and pass the “Defence Instructor Techniques” and a 10-day Staff Leadership School course. • Successfully complete a Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector within three years of commencing the post. • Successfully complete an assessor and verifier qualification within one year of appointment.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Essential Desirable Hold CEng Level qualifications in one or more of the following : MIMechE MIET MCIBSE Or at CEng Level and prepared to take Chartered Professional Review MSc in a Mechanical or Electrical discipline is preferred Teaching qualifications an advantage but candidates will be fully supported to achieve appropriate qualifications and receive training Ability to work in a strong teaching team Enthusiastic and curious engineer High standards of communication skills Able practitioner who wants to teach Confident speaker who can be taught to teach Able critic of written work at Chartered Engineer/Masters level A background in Design and/or Maintenance in E&M Infrastructure and associated Project Management
